3 Easy Ways to Add a Custom Sewing Label to Fleece Blankets for a Professional Finish

Fleece blankets are the ultimate in comfort, making them perfect for personal use, thoughtful gifts, or even selling in your shop. Adding a custom sewing label to your handmade fleece blankets not only enhances the look but also adds a professional touch that sets your creations apart. Whether you’re crafting for friends, family, or customers, a label can tell a story, help with branding, or provide care instructions.

In this post, we’ll walk you through three of the best methods for adding a custom sewing label to your fleece projects: sew-on cotton labels, regular iron-on labels, and satin folded sew-in labels

Each method offers unique benefits depending on your needs, so let’s dive in!

Sew-On Cotton Labels: The Classic Custom Sewing Label for Durability

Why Choose a Sew-On Cotton Blanket Label?

Sew-on cotton labels are a tried-and-true option for crafters who want a custom sewing label that stands the test of time. They offer a durable, high-quality finish that will hold up to multiple washes and years of use. These labels are made from cotton, a soft, natural fabric that complements the cozy texture of fleece blankets, creating a harmonious blend.

The beauty of a sew-on cotton label is that it becomes a permanent part of your fleece blanket. Whether you’re creating a blanket as a gift or selling them at craft fairs, this type of blanket label ensures your hard work is always remembered.

How to Attach a Sew-On Cotton Custom Sewing Label

1. Choose the ideal spot for your label. Here I choose to attach it to the corner, but you can also attach it along the edge of the blanket. These areas keep the label visible without taking away from the overall design.

2. You can iron the label in place using a hot iron (no steam) for 3 seconds as an optional step. This way the label will not shift or move during sewing.

3. Use a straight stitch to carefully sew around the edges of the label. This can be done by hand for a more personal touch, or with a sewing machine for speed and precision.

A sew-on cotton label gives your fleece blanket a professional finish and ensures that your creation is clearly identified. It’s especially ideal for those who want a durable, long-lasting label that can withstand frequent washing and wear.

Iron-On Labels: A Quick and Easy Custom Sewing Label Solution

When you’re pressed for time or don’t want to sew, regular iron-on labels are a fantastic option for adding a custom sewing label to your fleece blankets. These labels are designed for ease of use and offer a sleek, professional look with minimal effort. Whether you’re creating several blankets for an upcoming craft fair or just want a simple way to personalize a sewing gift, iron-on labels are a convenient choice.

The adhesive on iron-on labels bonds well with the fleece fabric, making this method not only quick but reliable. Plus, you won’t need a sewing machine or sewing needle, which makes this option perfect for beginners or those looking for a fuss-free solution.

1. Preheat your iron to hot (without steam). It’s important to avoid steam as it can interfere with the adhesive on the label.

2. Remove the paper backing and place your custom sewing label in the desired spot on your fleece blanket. I choose the corner of the blanket.

3. Optional Step: Cover the label with a pressing cloth (a thin cotton cloth or pillowcase works well) to protect the fleece from the heat of the iron.

4. Press the iron down on the label for 3 seconds, applying even pressure. Ensure that the heat is evenly distributed across the entire label.

5. Allow the blanket to cool for a few minutes before checking the label. Make sure the edges are fully adhered. If any edges lift, repeat the process again ensuring that the corners are well adhered.

Iron-on labels are a fast and efficient way to create custom, branded blankets without the need for sewing skills. They give your fleece blanket a clean, professional appearance that’s perfect for both personal use and selling.

Satin Folded Sew-In Labels: Add a Touch of Elegance

For those looking for a simple yet elegant way to label fleece blankets, satin folded sew-in labels are an ideal choice. One of the biggest advantages of using satin folded labels is how effortlessly they can be slipped between the two layers of a blanket during construction. When you’re sewing the blanket’s layers together, simply tuck the folded label into the seam—no extra steps or special techniques are needed. This makes satin labels not only easy to apply but also gives your project a seamless, professional look.

Another great feature of folded satin labels is their practicality. You can print branding on one side and important details like washing instructions on the back, offering both style and function in a single label. This is especially useful for fleece blankets, which often require specific care instructions to maintain their softness and longevity.

And while satin labels may have the appearance of a high-end, premium option, they are actually more economical than you might think. When purchased in larger quantities, the price per label is reduced greatly.  This makes them a cost-effective solution, whether you’re making sewing gifts or producing blankets for sale.

How to Sew In a Satin Folded Custom Sewing Label

1. Fold the satin label in half so that it creates a neat, professional crease. Position the folded edge of the label along a seam. I placed the label near a corner.

2. Pin or clip the label in place to prevent any movement while sewing. Satin can be slippery, so be sure to pin it securely.

3. Using a needle and thread, sew along the folded edge of the label, attaching it neatly into the seam of the blanket. If you’re using a sewing machine, make sure to adjust your settings to accommodate the slippery texture of satin.

Satin Labels that are Great for Blankets

A satin folded label adds a professional and elegant touch to your fleece blanket, making it an excellent choice for luxury products, special occasions, or high-quality sewing gifts. It’s the perfect way to ensure your blankets are not only cozy but also stylish.

Adding a custom sewing label to your fleece blankets is more than just a finishing touch—it’s a way to personalize your creations, build your brand, and make a lasting impression. Whether you prefer the durability of a sew-on cotton label, the convenience of a regular iron-on label, or the elegance of a satin folded sew-in label, each method offers a unique way to add value and professionalism to your fleece blanket projects.

Choose the method that best suits your needs and try adding these labels to your next set of sewing gifts or blankets for sale. With the right label, your handmade creations will stand out and leave a lasting mark.
